In response to all the conversation recently about educators and WindLight, Linden Lab be holding the second inworld informational session with Pastrami Linden. Pastrami will discuss:
“How to optimize the latest viewers for older hardware (Hint- they will be even faster than the old ones!)”
ISTE will host this session on Thursday April 24th at 3:00 pm Pacific/SL time at the ISTE Beach/Campfire Area http://slurl.com/secondlife/ISTE%20Island/213/150/22
For those of you who haven’t seen it, Torley Linden posted a Graphics Preferences Guide video tutorial here: http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/04/11/tip-of-the-week-30-graphics-preferences-guide/ to *show what just about each and every option does*.
This will be a text chat session. Bring your questions!

Many folks using MacBooks (pro?) have been experiencing routine crashes when running Second Life. Several folks have posted to the SLED list for help. Looks like AJ Brooks may have found an easy one that doesn’t require any hacking:
Finally got SL to run on my new macbook. It requires you to be logged on long enough to change one setting. You MUST have “Client/Server” up on the top menu first though. (Cmd+Option+Shift+D for a Mac) As I could only be in world for 1 minute at a time, at best, it took a couple of tries to make this work. Go to Client menu and near the bottom is “Debug Settings” NOT “Debug”. Scroll to about 1/2 inch from the bottom to “Use Occlusions” Set to False. That’s it!!!

Thanks, AJ. Anyone else try this fix? Still having problems? Drop a comment here to suggest alternative solutions or to let us know that this fix works for you as well.
